The new building of the Colégio dos Plátanos connects the east and west existent buildings and articulates the levels of the south outdoor courtyard, the sports area to the north,
and the covered outdoor area to the east, all at different heights. The hit-and-miss north facade takes advantage from the wind’s dominant path, inflates air into the building also
oriented towards the classrooms on the opposite side, for a natural and sustainable ventilation system. Also allows to natural light the rooms on the north side and protects all
windows and grids from the near sports area.
O novo edifício do Colégio dos Plátanos interliga os edifícios existentes a nascente e poente, e articula os piso do pátio exterior a sul, a zona desportiva a norte e a zona coberta exterior a nascente, todos eles a diferentes cotas. A fachada norte perfurada em tijolo, num esquema «hit-and-miss», tira o máximo partido dos ventos dominantes
insuflando ar no edifício até às salas de aula na fachada oposta, criando um sistema sustentável de ventilação natural. Esta fachada de tijolo também permite iluminar naturalmente as salas a norte, protegendo igualmente as janelas e grelhas da área desportiva nas imediações.
