Pôle social et culturel Gonzague Saint Bris

The civic and cultural center of Cabourg is located on an enclosed plot. The project tackles this challenging situation by opening out to the city. The program is split into two L-shaped buildings that define a central public square which allows a new pedestrian link between the city center and the residential area. The buildings are inspired by Norman traditional architecture: tiled peaked roof, timber frame and elongated shape. The continuous tiled envelope of the building highlights the project. This technical achievement results from the association of the architects with local makers.
Le pôle social et culturel est situé sur une ancienne parcelle enclavée. Le projet s’appuie sur cette contrainte pour affirmer son caractère public en ouvrant largement le cœur d’îlot sur la ville. Le programme est scindé en deux bâtiments en forme de L délimitant une place publique, nouvelle centralité du site créant une continuité piétonne entre le centre-ville et le quartier résidentiel au nord. Les deux bâtiments s’appuient sur la typologie normande caractéristique de Cabourg (toiture terre cuite, charpente en bois…) dans un réinterprétation contemporaine. La couverture en tuile de terre cuite enveloppe le bâtiment, la technicité de sa réalisation est permise par l’association avec des artisans locaux.
