Bethnal Green Mission Church represents Gatti Routh Rhodes’ ongoing interest in how to best leverage limited resources to create sustainable buildings imbued both with a deep sense of community and a rich materiality.
The building includes a church, community halls, a café, a foodbank, offices and apartments.
The pale brick facade, is framed by precast light concrete elements whilst the structure is a combination of concrete and cross laminated timber. The gates and the stained glass express the building’s civic use and pick up on the exposed concrete coffers spanning the church space.
